Flexibility: Be available for some nights and weekends as required for event execution and planning. Qualifications Fluency in Khmer is preferred. Proven experience in event planning and coordination. Excellent organizational and multitasking skills. Strong communication and negotiation abilities. Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Benefits Competitive salary Competitive salary within the range of $43,000 to $50,000. First Time Home Buyer Training Our First Time Home Buyer (FTHB) classes are offered in partnership with the Merrimack Valley Housing Partnership’s Project Genesis (MVHP). CMAA supports the outreach, recruiting, and translation in Khmer Language for classes held on location at our office. MVHP provides the instructors, speakers and handouts. We are proud to make these classes accessible to a significant segment of the Lowell community that is unable to participate in other Home Buyer classes due to the language barrier. First Time Home Buyer Training (FTHB) in Khmer Language Home ownership is one of the most powerful asset building strategies for families. Purchasing a home is a complex transaction that requires much planning and preparation, including building good credit, saving for a down payment, working with a realtor to find a home that meets the family’s needs, negotiating a purchase price, applying for loans and evaluating competing loan offers, closing the loan, and then maintaining the home and family finances. Our First Time Home Buyer (FTHB) classes are offered in partnership with the Merrimack Valley Housing Partnership’s Project Genesis (MVHP) . Serving these clients is challenging, as linguistic and cultural barriers can hinder effective communication between you and your clients. At Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association (CMAA), we have over 39 years of experience in delivering effective, culturally, and linguistically appropriate services to the Southeast Asian community. We are expanding our services to include affordable and culturally sensitive interpretation and translation services in Khmer. Our interpreters are highly skilled in communication that involves complex language, body systems, and concepts/procedures of Western biomedicine. ESOL Class In partnership with Frederick Assad Abisi Adult Education, CMAA’s English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes program provide opportunities for community members seeking to improve English language skills. ESOL Overview English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Classes are for adult learners whose native language is not English. - In order to register, students must reside in the Greater Lowell area and be at least 18 years old. - Photo ID and proof of addres s are required before starting classes. All instruction is in English. Reading, writing and speaking skills are taught. Students are grouped in Beginner, Low, Intermediate or Advanced classes according to their placement test scores. If you choose a class that is not available at your level, you will be asked to choose a different class. Class Schedule Options will be on the Registration Form. - Energy Efficiency Initiative | CMAA | Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association
With funding from the Asian Community Fund at the Boston Foundation and the Asian Business Empowerment Council, CMAA started an Asian Small Business Assistance Initiative. Additionally, we partner with the Entrepreneurship Center at Community Teamwork, Inc. (CTI) to provide workshops in Khmer to new/start-up businesses in Lowell. ← Special Projects Energy Efficiency Initiative CMAA started a new energy efficiency initiative working with the City of Lowell , the Community First Partnership (Mass Save) , Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) and UMass Lowell’s RIST Institute for Sustainability and Energy . Our partnership with Mass Save brings energy savings benefits to all residents, landlords, renters, and small businesses. Mass Save provides eligible households with cost savings on their home energy consumption. A second component of our Initiative is to recruit and train energy ambassadors within the Cambodian community. Energy ambassadors help promote energy usage savings through social diffusion activities, such as educating residents about available energy savings programs and sharing their energy savings experiences with their network of friends. The energy ambassadors meet once a month to update their activities and receive support from the CMAA project team. Energy ambassadors and participants in the project earn incentives through their active participation. Monthly Ambassador Meetings will take place every last Saturday of the month from 10-11:30AM at the CMAA Office. Please check back often as dates are subject to change.
